Abstract
In this study, we developed new software for anatomical reduction and virtual surgery to simulate surgery preoperatively and to plan the operation precisely. Our simulation software was made up of two main parts: the segmentation and simulation modules. It processed the data through five steps. First, our software loaded the three-dimensional medical image data. Then, bone regions were segmented using manual and semi-automatic methods. Next, the segmented data were reconstructed and displayed as a three-dimensional surface model. Finally, virtual simulations were performed using surgical tools. Our software emphasized the reality because it used fracture image data of real patients and reconstructed them as a three-dimensional model. As surgical tools such as plates and screws were also modeled of a real size and shape, users could perform a virtual surgery and plan an operation in a realistic environment. Therefore, we expect that our software could contribute to clinical surgery of fractures by preventing the surgical mistake and improving the correctness of operation.
